The TIFA's program "Toride Chat Square" has been introduced to provide a unique platform where expatriates and local citizens periodically meet and chit chat in English.  It was first launched on October 30, 2010 with as small number of attendees as 14 and it has been progressively becoming more and more.

     Reflecting current racial proportion of the expatriates in Toride, the English spoken there will probably be so-called "Global English" which is spoken nowadays by 4 billion non-native speakers all around the world; cf. 0.4 billion native speakers.

     Please come and try chatting in English in your own way at the Toride Chat Square, feel cultural differences, make friends, know each other and enjoy the company of friends from different countries.

• Eligibility:
• To be willing to communicate in English all the while.
• Registration:
• First 30 applications from 13:00 on the day at the entrance
  
• Chat Groups:      
  
• Participants to be sorted into groups consisting of 4 or 5 persons each and shuffled after an hour..
  
• Topics of Talk:
• Self-introduction in brief and general talk within each group for the first one hour. Chatting on a specific topic given by a facilitator or your group leader for the second one hour.
  
• Rule:
• Be patient to understand what your chat mate is saying and, if necessary, gear down yourself to match the atmosphere.
• Note:
• Speaking in Japanese is not encouraged in view of equality in communication by means of one single common language.
